AWARDS CRITERIA
 
The Mentally or Physically Challenged Sportswoman of the Year Award will be presented to a local woman who demonstrates superior athletic achievement, community involvement, and outstanding spirit. You may nominate any girl or woman with a permanent mental or physical disability who participates in athletics. The nominee should also be involved in non-athletic or extra-curricular activities, such as school, religious, or community affiliations. Nominate
 
The Coach of the Year Award will be judged by his/her coaching success as well as his/her status as a role model for athletes, community involvement, participation in coaching associations and other related professional organizations, and general pursuit of excellence as a coach and mentor. Two coaches will be selected as winners of Coach of the year from these three categories: college, high school or other (i.e. Youth, open, AAU coach) Nominate
 
The College Sportswoman of the Year Award will be presented to a woman playing at a local college who demonstrates superior athletic achievement. Other considerations will be academic standards, community involvement, and outstanding leadership qualities. Six nominees from all sports will be chosen. These nominees will be given special recognition at the event as the top athlete in their sport. One winner will be announced that evening as the college sportswoman of the year. Nominate
 
The High School Sportswoman of the Year Award will be presented to a local high school girl who demonstrates superior athletic achievement. Other considerations will be academic standards, community involvement, and outstanding leadership qualities. Ten nominees from all sports will be chosen. These nominees will be given special recognition at the event as the top athlete in their sport. One winner will be announced that evening as the high school sportswoman of the year. Nominate
 
The Master's Sportswoman of the Year Award will be presented to a local woman [ages 25 and over] who demonstrates superior athletic achievement, community involvement, and outstanding leadership qualities. Nominate

The Senior Sportswoman of the Year Award will be presented to a local woman [ages 50 and over] who demonstrates superior athletic achievement, community involvement, and outstanding leadership qualities. Nominate
 
The Wilma Rudolph Courage Award will be presented to a local female or female playing locally, who demonstrates the most courageous performance or “comeback” in sports. The athlete should show the ability to overcome adversity through persistence and determination. As a result of her courage and performance in sports, she serves as a positive role model for all. The Donna deVarona Spirit of Sport Award will be presented to a local person (i.e. coach, administrator, referee) who best demonstrates the ideals in the “true spirit of sport” either as a participant or as a supporter or promoter of girl's and women's sports and fitness. Criteria include a distinctive display of leadership traits, dedication to furthering women in sport, and demonstration of extraordinary performance that exceeds expectation. Nominate
 
The Lifetime Service Award will be presented to a local woman who has given many years of support, service, and enthusiasm to girls' and women's sports. She is a woman who has persevered tirelessly through the years so that girls and women today can enjoy the benefits of competitive athletics. She is a woman who has fought for equal opportunities in sports for girls and women when it wasn't popular to do so. Nominate

The Legacy Award will be presented to a local woman who has been an outstanding athlete. Nominate
 
Special Recognition Award will be given to a local person who has made a significant contribution to women's sports. This may be given any time during the year.  Nominate

The Mary Jo Huismann Administrator of the Year Award will be given to an administrator of an interscholastic or intercollegiate program who has demonstrated excellence in leadership and service and made significant contributions that enhances and promotes the sports experience for girls and women in our community.  This award is not necessarily presented annually, but rather in years in which a male or female is deserving of such recognition.  Nomination Form
